The Grey Knight
This project is the cover for the first book in the Blackthorn series. It is a fantasy series aimed at a teen/young adult demographic. As the first in the series, it is the place where most readers would start, and so needs to draw the eye enough to get people interested in trying the first chapter or two. It also needs to be clearly identified as the first in a series, so both new and old readers can recognize it at a glance.
To meet his criteria, I used an AI image generator to create the background of the image, designing and drawing the Grey Knight using descriptions from the text. To create a recognizable brand/identity for the series, I created a wordmark based on a fantasy-themed typeface. It is set in gold to make it stand out from the darker background, with a drop shadow to help it stand out from the dancing lights scattered throughout the cover. Set directly beneath it is an identifier of which book in the series it is, so new readers have no trouble recognizing where to start.
